Cut Along helps you explore mapped waterways and keep a private cruising log. You can use the map without an account. You need an account to review a stretch, add a photo, vote or use boat services on the website or in the app.
What stays on your device
Your boat name, saved places and cruising log stay in this browser or on your iPhone or iPad unless you choose to copy missing logbook stays to your account. Logbook entries never appear in public reviews. You can export or erase native records in Settings. Clearing browser storage removes web records from that browser.
Cloud logbook copies
A cloud copy includes the place, arrival and departure, private note and any saved boat position. Firestore stores it under your account ID. Other account holders cannot read it through the app. You can bring missing stays onto another device or delete every cloud copy. Corrections are not copied automatically. Removing a stay on one device does not remove its cloud copy or a copy on another device. Signing out leaves local stays on that device.
Your community account
If you create an account, Firebase Authentication handles your email address and sign-in details. We use your account ID to connect your reviews and votes to you. You must verify your email before contributing. A private admin directory keeps your email address, whether it is verified, and the dates your account was first recorded and last used. Only the Cut Along administrator can see that directory. Signing out does not remove a review you have published.
Reviews, photos and votes
Your chosen name, star rating, review text and photos can be seen by anyone who opens the stretch. Photos are compressed before upload and the original file metadata is removed. Please avoid showing someone’s face, boat name or exact mooring without their permission. You can edit or delete your own review on its stretch page. Votes are linked to an account ID to prevent repeat voting. Reports are kept privately for moderation and may remain after a review is removed. The administrator can hide a review from the app and website while keeping its record for review.
Boat services
On the website and in the app, confirmed account holders can publish boat service profiles, work requests and ratings. Other confirmed account holders can see these records. A business image and any website or social links you add are shown on your service profile. The image is compressed before it is stored. Messages between a boater and a provider are stored in Firestore and can be read by those two people. The administrator can pause a listing, close a request or hide a rating. Published area points are rounded to roughly one kilometre. Signing out does not delete published records.
Boat marketplace
Confirmed account holders can list boats and gear for free. Other confirmed account holders can see the title, description, price, condition, chosen area, rounded map point and any photos. Boat listings can also show the type, dimensions and build year. A buyer can compare the rounded point with their current location or a searched place to filter by approximate distance. A postcode or town search is sent to Postcodes.io. A full postcode is used to find the area but is not stored on the listing. Photos are compressed before upload. Keep your exact mooring, phone number and email out of public listings.
Buyers and sellers can read their own private conversation in Firestore. Reports are visible to the administrator and may remain after a listing is hidden or sold. You can edit, pause or mark your listing sold. The administrator can hide a listing while reviewing a report. Cut Along does not process payments or verify boat ownership, identity or condition.
Location and maps
We request your location when you use Find me, a nearby waterway suggestion, or capture your boat position for a stay. You can decline. A saved boat position is included if you export that stay or choose to copy it to your account. We do not track you in the background. Map background tiles load from OpenFreeMap, which may receive your IP address and the area you view. Waterway lines and place names come from a bundled OpenStreetMap extract.
Reminders and sharing
On iPhone and iPad, stay reminders are scheduled on your device if you allow notifications. A reminder can show your saved place name on the lock screen. Export and sharing use your device’s share options. Draft problem reports are not sent automatically. This early access build has no advertising or analytics SDK.
