The need for a certificate depends on the boat and navigation authority. For boats that require one, the usual examination cycle is four years; check the current rules for your craft.
Prepare the systems
Read the scheme's current requirements and deal with known fuel, gas, electrical and ventilation faults before booking. Use qualified people for specialist repairs.
Keep looking between exams
Test alarms and inspect accessible systems regularly. A valid certificate does not mean a new leak or fault can safely wait until the next examination.
