Know the escape routes
Check hatches, doors and windows that can be used in an emergency. Keep them clear of fuel, bags and furniture, especially at night.
Check equipment
Fit and maintain suitable alarms and extinguishers for the boat. Make sure everyone aboard knows where they are and when to leave rather than fight a growing fire.
Reduce common causes
Keep combustible items away from stoves, maintain appliances and inspect suspect wiring. Follow Boat Safety Scheme guidance for the installation and your boat's equipment.
