Know the sources
Stoves, heaters, cookers, generators and engine exhaust can all produce dangerous fumes. Never use a cooker to heat the cabin or run a portable generator in or near it.
Keep ventilation clear
Fuel-burning equipment needs the air its maker specifies. Maintain flues and appliances, and use a competent marine professional for installation or repairs.
Act on an alarm
Move everyone into fresh air, stop using the suspected appliance if safe to do so and seek emergency help. Do not return to sleep aboard until the source has been found and made safe.
